Holiday Skirt in a Night (Adults)
Description
The Holiday Season is approaching! Come to this one-night class and leave with a skirt ready to wear to all of your parties and events.
We will be sewing the Butterick 6986 Wrap-and-Go skirt. This flared, back-wrapped skirt is below mid-knee length, has pockets, inside front seams, a waistband with attached narrow ties, and topstitch trim. There are only two main pattern pieces. There is no zipper, buttons, darts, or snaps. Just slip it on, wrap, and tie, and you're set to go.
During this 1-week class, students will learn:
- How to take your measurements and choose the correct pattern size
- How to make simple adjustments to a pattern to fit your body
- How to sew in-seam pockets
- How to sew a waistband tie
- How to use a serger/overlocker to finish seams
- How to sew a narrow hem
This class is suitable for confident beginners and above. Students must be able to operate a sewing machine independently and confidently.
Required Materials (purchase prior to the first class):
- 3 to 4 yards of fabric (see recommended fabric and yardage notes below)
- (1) Pattern: B6986
-
1 spool of coordinating all-purpose thread
Recommended Fabric:
- This pattern works best with soft fabrics such as Broadcloth, Challis, Chambray, Double Knits, Medium-weight Crepe. We have some beautiful fabrics that will work with this pattern. Our staff is more than happy to help you with your fabric selections!
- As with all garment classes, we recommend you wash and dry your fabric prior to the start of class to prevent any further shrinking.
Yardage:
It depends on the size and view of the dress being made. The pattern accommodates US sizes 4-18. Sewing pattern sizes are found inside the pattern. Use your body measurements to determine your size and calculate the fabric yardage needed for class. Need help taking your measurements? Just reach out to us for help!
Class Requirements:
Participants must complete the Beginner Workshop (or know how to thread and use a sewing machine) prior to starting this course. This class is appropriate for both Skill Level 2 and above.
SKILL LEVEL 2 - ADVANCED BEGINNER
Level 2 Classes are designed for stitchers who have basic sewing experienced and have practiced within the last year. You know how to use and thread a sewing machine and bobbin on your own. You know how to sew a simple seam and are familiar with terminology such as “right sides together” and “seam allowance”. If you have previously taken a workshop with Made Stitch Co, you will be ready for this level.
