Sewing with Sergers Level 1-The Very Beginning with Helen Bartley
Description
Helen Bartley will be at Made Stitch Co in April! She's teaching Serger Level 1 on Tuesday, April 7th and Jeans Jamboree April 8-12. The class is open to everyone, but If you are coming to Jeans Jamboree, this is a great add-on class!
Get to know and use your serger-any make and model! This class is perfect if you have a new or “new to you” serger. It’s also a great way to decide which serger you want to buy if you don’t have one. Using a combination of slides, video-clips and demos Helen will help you demystify the many moving parts and how they work together. You will learn about easy threading, basic tension, 2, 3, and 4-thread stitches, simple flat-lock and the versatile rolled hem. You will be provided with fabric for samples and a notebook with instructions. If you need to borrow a serger, please let us know when you register.
Hands-on, 5-hour workshop $150, includes notebook and fabric samples.
Bring to class:
- 4 spools of thread in 4 different colors. You can use regular spool thread if you don’t have cones. As long as the colors are contrasting, so you can really differentiate between them, it’s fine. NOTE: if you have a new Brother serger that came with sample thread spools, these generally are not enough thread to do the entire class.
- Size 80/12 universal point needles for your specific machine. If you aren’t sure, get
them before class at Made Stitch Company. - Standard sewing supplies (scissors, seam gauge, pins etc.)
- Long tweezers (these come with every new serger, but if yours has wandered off, please
be sure you bring one!) They are your best friend when threading a serger - Double-sided tape for securing samples in your notebook. Pins work, too.
- Readers/glasses if you need them. Vision is so important while doing any kind of sewing.
- Consider extra task lighting, too.
- Snack or sack lunch. We will break for about 15 minutes.
