Handmade Wardrobe Series-Polished Sweatshirt

$225.00
Description

Cool weather is coming!!! It's time to start thinking about cozy layers for fall. Join us in the studio to sew a very stylish sweatshirt. I love the tulip sleeves on this top!

We will be sewing the new Butterick 6996 pattern. This is no slumpy sweatshirt. You'll feel polished wherever you go. The sweatshirt is a loose tops with a wide front crossover neck band, wide sleeve bands and wide waistband. Views A and B have 3/4 sleeves and View C top has long sleeves. Front seaming has in seam pockets!

Sometimes, the biggest sewing challenge is getting the proper fit for your sewing project. We will do some basic fitting so that the pattern fits YOUR body. With the perfectly fit pattern, you can sew one in every color of the rainbow!

During this 3-week class, students will learn:

  • How to take your measurements and choose the correct pattern size
  • How to make simple adjustments to a pattern to fit your body
  • How to sew with knits
  • How to sew a neckband, waistband, and sleeve bands
  • How to sew in-seam pockets
  • How to use a serger/overlocker to finish seams

This class is suitable for confident beginners and above. It is perfect for our Beginner Fashion Sewing Level One class graduates. Students must be able to operate a sewing machine independently and confidently.

Required Materials (purchase prior to the first class):

  • 1 3/4 to 2 1/4 yards of fabric (see recommended fabric and yardage notes below)
  • (1) Pattern: B6996
  • 1 spool of coordinating all-purpose thread

Recommended Fabric:

  • This pattern works best with Stretch Knits only such as French Terry, Cotton Knits, Interlock, Jersey Knits, Novelty Knits. We have some beautiful fabrics that will work with this pattern and have a big shipment of yummy French Terry due to arrive last week of September. Our staff is more than happy to help you with your fabric selections!
  • As with all garment classes, we recommend you wash and dry your fabric prior to the start of class to prevent any further shrinking.

Yardage:
It depends on the size and view of the dress being made. The pattern accommodates US sizes 8-26. Sewing pattern sizes are found inside the pattern. Use your body measurements to determine your size and calculate the fabric yardage needed for class. Need help taking your measurements? Just reach out to us for help!

Class Requirements:

Participants must complete the Beginner Workshop  (or know how to thread and use a sewing machine) prior to starting this course. This class is appropriate for both Skill Level 2 and Skill Level 3 or experienced stitchers who have never sewn with knit fabric.

SKILL LEVEL 2 - ADVANCED BEGINNER

Level 2 Classes are designed for stitchers who have basic sewing experienced and have practiced within the last year. You know how to use and thread a sewing machine and bobbin on your own. You know how to sew a simple seam and are familiar with terminology such as “right sides together” and “seam allowance”. If you have previously taken a workshop with Made Stitch Co, you will be ready for this level.

SKILL LEVEL 3 - BEGINNER DRESSMAKER

Level 3 Classes are designed for stitchers who are confident using a sewing machine and have practiced in the last six months. You can complete a simple project, such as pillow case or tote bag, without difficulty. You are ready to begin sewing clothing but not sure how to get started.
